If you wish to spread your wings and enjoy some of the many facilities of the
region, there are many things to see and do on your doorstep.
Enjoy the leisurely pace of the local villages or head further afield on the
excellent autoroute system. The nearest autoroute junction being just a 6 mile
drive.
The village of Leucate is situated about 4 miles to the North of the naturist
village. Take the cycle paths for the short journey into this vibrant village.
Leucate has a number of bars & restaurants which are open throughout the
year. The weekly market is on a Thursday morning. The local Vignier will be
happy to sell wines from the local co-operative to the finest the Fitou region
has to offer.
Port Leucate is situated a couple of miles to the South. Port Leucate is larger
than Leucate Village and surrounds a large marina. You can sit in one of the
many harbour-side bars and look out over the mix of local fishing boats and
luxury yachts. The market in Port Leucate is on Sunday morning.
Perpignan is the nearest "large" town and is situated a 20 minute drive to the
South. Once the capital city of the counts of Roussillon and the kings of
Majorca, Perpignan is one of the 'hottest' towns in France. Perpignan is a
lively Catalan town with international seminars, festivals, bistros and
gorgeous boutiques.
In the 1st century BC, Narbonne was a major port on the Via Domitia, the Roman
road along the coast, still followed by the autoroute today. It was capital of
the Narbonensis, the largest province of Roman Gaul. Today it is prosperous
again thanks to the surrounding wine region and is now the biggest city in the
Aude 'departement'.
Much has been written about the fortified town of Carcassonne and is a 'must
see' during your holiday. Carcassonne is about a one hour drive to the North,
passing close to Narbonne on the way.
From the Bastide Saint-Louis to the medieval Walled City, Carcassonne offers a
wealth of monuments to visit and discover!
One of the most Southerly ports on the French coast is an absolute gem. Home of
Fauvism and still beloved by artists. Make sure you have your camera to hand!
You have a choice here. You can enjoy the views of the Pyrenees
from the South-West facing garden and decking of our villa, whilst enjoying a
glass of Fitou wine, or, pack your walking boots and spend a day exploring the
mountain villages and trails of the Canigou Massif.
